Lorne Warr
Singer/songwriter Lorne Warr was born and raised in the small town of Lewisporte, Newfoundland. He grew up surrounded by Newfoundland music and folklore--listening to his Granny's button accordion playing and his father's stories of ghost ships and pirates.
Over the years he has explored many musical genres--from rock bands, solo classical guitar and folk music to obscure, esoteric jazz (How esoteric? Just ask him about synthetic keys and watch the pained expression on his face). It wasn't until a friend lent him a mandolin and taught him a jig by Newfoundland fiddler Emile Beniot that his musical soul found its way back home-- back to the Newfoundland and Celtic music he had loved as a child.
After founding the Streels with a friend in 1998, he began writing his own songs (some based on his father's stories) and writing arrangements for traditional songs that were fresh and energetic. He even started playing the button accordion that he inherited from his grandmother. He continues to write, arrange, perform, and to follow the most important part of the Newfoundland musical tradition---to have fun! |
